Cerro
Gordo
The Cerro Gordo Loop takes you through the best California ghost town
after Bodie. It also takes you from the Owens Valley floor to over
10,000 feet. Besides the ghost town of Cerro Gordo, you will pass the
famous Salt Tram power station and the Burgess Cabin. There are
spectacular views of the Owens and Saline valleys as you ride along the
very crest of the Inyo Mountains. The loop is all dirt except the 3.5
miles of highway 136 from Swansea back to the start in Keller. The road
from Keller up to Cerro Gordo is a county dirt road. The ride can be
done on a green sticker bike by starting at Swansea, riding backwards to
Cerro Gordo then following the roll chart back to Swansea. |
